This was so bizarrely wonderful that I added it to my all-time favorite film list before I had finished watching it! Definitely a "wtf" film, The American Astronaut is probably the only low-budget homoerotic science fiction musical western ever. The only way I can describe it is if Fritz Lang, Edgar G. Ulmer and David Lynch collaborated on an episode of "Space Cadet". Writer/ director Cory McAbee of Billy Nayer Show infamy) is Samuel Curtis, a space trader/ dance contest champion. His mission: trade a cat for a girl clone, trade the clone for The Boy Who Saw A Woman?s Breast (just watch and you'll understand), trade the boy for a corpse, collect the reward on the corpse. Of course, nothing goes as planned, especially since psycho Professor Hess (Rocco Sisto) is stalking him. Great song and dance numbers, cheap special effects, and highly surreal.
