Beginner Tahitian Dance for Keiki (ages 6-12):

Description: Tahitian dance is a combination of dance, theatrical expression and storytelling. Its beauty and uniqueness reside in the costumes that are often composed of the long skirts of natural fiber called more and intricate feather headresses, and in the way the female dancers' hips move quickly and rhythmically while the upper body stays strong and engaged. This artistic activity is very engaging to children from the earliest ages onward.
In Beginner Tahitian Dance for Keiki, we will learn basic posture and technique, a fun traditional song and choreography, and we will play traditional Tahitian dance games. Please dress your keiki in a pareu or sarong and a t-shirt/tank-top, and give them some drinking water for each session.

Mondays and Wednesdays
5:30 - 6:20pm
Fee: $60

Open Enrollment, Register today! (808) 935-7141, www.ywcahawaiiisland.org

Description: In this class, we will explore the traditional Tahitian dance form of ote'a , which is a combination of dance, theatrical expression and storytelling that is led by a large percussion ensemble. The beauty and uniqueness of this danceform reside in the costumes that are often composed of the long skirts of natural fiber called more and intricate feather headresses, and in the way women's hips move quickly and rhythmically while the upper body stays strong and engaged.
In Tahitian dance for beginners, we will learn basic posture, hip motions and gestual vocabulary, as well as basics on the cultural background that frames this wonderful art. By the end of the course we will have learned a fun choreography in the traditional "ote'a" style. Please wear a pareu or sarong, and a t-shirt/tank-top to class, and bring drinking water.

Mondays and Wednesdays
6:30 - 7:30pm
Fee: $60
